Electrified palisade fences

electrified palisadeAn electrified palisade fence is a steel or aluminium palisade fence used as a defensive barrier for the protection of property, particularly in isolated regions.

Typical construction

Electrified palisade fences are usually made from painted mild steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel or aluminium. Typically the fences are 2.4 metres (7 ft 10 in). All electric fences have energisers which send high voltage electric pulses through the palisade, usually at a frequency of 1 Hertz (one pulse per second).

Uses

The two most common uses of electrified palisade fencing is in protecting isolated property and in the defence of high security facilities. Palisade electric fences are used in most countries, particularly where there is little vegetation to short circuit the fence or where the costs of security personnel is high in relation to automated security equipment.

Isolated property is vulneelectrified fencingrable in that it is difficult or time consuming to send security personnel to respond and so must be self sufficient with an automated security system. The electric pulse is a strong deterrent for criminals, while the palisade fence is mechanically stronger than a typical steel cable electric fence being able to withstand impact from wildlife, small falling trees and wildfires.

South Africa

Due to the high levels of crime in South Africa, it is common for residential houses to have perimeter defences. The City of Johannesburg promotes the use of palisade fencing over opaque, usually brick, walls as criminals cannot hide as easily behind the fence. In the City of Johannesburg manual on safety one can read about best practices and maintenance of palisade fencing, such as not growing vegetation in front of palisades as this allows criminals to make an unseen breach.

More Anti-climb Security

crimesceneWith the crime escalating in South Africa, and the police’s inability to do anything about it, we need to be sure we have the best possible protection for our family and property.

Perimeter walls and fences are your first wall of defence, so you need to be sure to use methods that not only deter criminals, but discourage them from even attempting to enter your property.

Besides having good quality walling or fencing erected, there are, among others, fence or wall toppings to increase the security of our walls and fences.   Rola Spikes, which are regarded as probably the most effective fence topping as regards anti-climbing wall solutions, coupled with electric fencing as backup, are highly rated by security industry experts.

Rola Spikes have proved to be the most effective crime deterrent solution over the past 15 years, and is therefore a great way to effectively protect your family and keep your property safe and crime free.

robber stuckCriminals love easy access, as they usually need to make a quick getaway, and if they cannot climb over easily are wary of even attempting to gain access. Of the many different spikes available, the Rola Spikes are manufactured from imported tough glass fibre-reinforced polyamide that has been UV stabilised, and are totally rust resistant.

The security spikes or stars are very sharp and rotate on 21mm galvanized steel round tubing.  Each star has 6 (six) spikes and they rotate individually when touched, which makes it virtually impossible for would-be intruders to grab onto and climb over perimeter walls, fences or gates.  With electric fences as backup, your security is of the highest possible standard.

An added bonus is the Rola Spikes are manufactured to withstand South Africa’s harsh weather conditions, and because they cannot be tampered with or bent, they make a wonderful addition to any perimeter fencing security.

The rotational spikes are very dangerous, but are neat and will not distract from the aesthetic appeal of your property, and will blend in well with the overall look of the property, while offering maximum security.

Wall Leaning

leaning wallThere are many reasons why a boundary wall starts to lean. It could be tree roots that grow and cause heave, thus putting pressure on the wall footings or foundations.

All retaining walls should incorporate weep holes to allow water pressure to be relieved and allows any water to seep through.

It is important to have regular checks on all your boundary and retaining walls to make sure that there is no damage or leaning occurring. A garden wall that collapses can cause serious injury or even death to an unsuspecting person or animal.

Make sure that the wall is thick enough for its height. The ratio of height and width various around the country and weather conditions and ground conditions.

Different materials will vary and you may have to introduce forms of reinforcements to improve the stability of your walls.

How To Paint a Fence

paint fence

Pick a suitable day to do the painting. Certain weather conditions are ideal for fence-painting. Pick a day with no rain in the forecast. Ideally, paint on a day with calm winds and ample cloud cover. Breezes can kick up debris that can stick to your paint job; direct sunlight makes the paint dry too fast and saps its protective properties.

Decide how you want to paint a fence.

Long fence:

  • If you have a long fence, you probably will want to use an industrial spray gun to complete the job quickly. Aim lengthwise, along the grain of the wood. Spray downwind and wear a respirapallisade fence painttor. Be sure to cover plants to protect them from overspray. Always keep a brush handy, even if you opt for a sprayer, in case you need to do any touch-up work.

Short fence:

  • If you have a smaller project, you probably can complete the job using a roller on flat surfaces and a brush for detailed, hard-to-reach sections.

  • Wrought iron fence:  Because they're often intricately designed, it's best to paint iron fences by hand to get optimum coverage. A single heavy coat of enamel or automotive epoxy paint usually is enough
