Wall Maintenance

big treeAs walls are our security, it is a good idea to check them regularly for any damage.   Planting big trees too close to a wall can cause damage as the tree grows and the roots expand.   It is never a good idea to have big trees close to a property, thus circumventing the security your wall offers you.

Check regularly that nobody has tried to chip away at your wall to gain access and immediately have it repaired if you discover any damage.  Country Wide Walling incorporates steel reinforced modular components that interlock during the installation process, thus making them very strong and durable.

Permanent colour can be added during the manufacturing process which eliminates future painting of the walls, rendering exterior wallthem aesthetically pleasing for many years.

If you chose to paint your wall after installation, you need to check and repaint your walls when necessary to avoid them looking drab and dull and spoiling the look and feel of your property.

A good quality wall is both aesthetically pleasing and adds value to your property.   It also provides security and privacy.  Country Wide Walling manufacture and install many different types of wall, so you can choose what would best suit your needs.

Whether it is plain concrete walls, concrete palisade fencing, or steel insert fencing, we are sure to have the right wall and design to meet your requirement. More Palisade Security Options

colourful palisadesPalisade fencing need not be off-putting to you because of aesthetic appeal.  There is always the option of good, thorny plants to plant at the base of the palisade to provide even more appeal and security.

Fire-thorn is always a good option for extra security, as nobody wants to mess with those thorns, but be careful if you have small children or animals, as the thorns can really be very mean, and cause pretty serious injury.

An English rambling rose is also good as it will give blooms annually and be beautiful to look at, even though the thorns can cause injury to anyone trying to climb the fence.

firethorn pyracantha berriesEuphorbia Milii or Crown of thorns is also a good deterrent.  It is a succulent, climbing shrub which can grow to 1.8m in height and has densely spiny stems.   The flowers are very pretty and come in red, pink or white, and up to 12mm wide, so it offers a very aesthetic appeal.

The sap, however is moderately poisonous, and causes irritation on contact with skin or eyes.  It causes severe stomach pain if ingested, as well as irritation of the throat and mouth, and vomiting.  No intruder would want to mess with this plant, as it can have serious consequences.

If you should use any of these plants to increase your security, make sure you wear goggles and thick gloves if you need to do any pruning of the shrubs.

Perimeter Fencing for High-Security Protection

wall securityWith security our priority, and the first line of defence around our premises, boundary fence security is vitally important.

Appropriate high-security fencing can act as an effective deterrent to would be criminal intruders.
In today’s continued criminal climate in South Africa, we need to be sure that we have done the best we can, to defend our properties and hard-earned goods.  We pay for whatever we have in our homes, so we need to make sure that we keep everything safe from free-loading shoppers with criminal intent.

With our perimeter fencing as our first line of defence, there are various options available to us, electric fencing, electronic surveillance, CCTV systems, razor wire, etc.  In most cases we need a combination of these options to give us relative peace of mind.

Boundary security is necessary for the following reasons:

1.      Deters some intruders from gaining access
2.      Is off-putting to some would-be intruders
3.    Detects determined intruders when they attempt to access your property or try to remove anything.
4.    Delays and aids in apprehending would-be intruders

Pitfalls to Avoid

There are a few common pitfalls we can avoid to ensure our safety. trees

  • Always repair holes, as they provide easy access.
  • Have no trees close to fencing as they can be used to climb over the fencing.
  • Do not leave rubbish bins out on the pavement, as they provide aid in climbing over fencing.
  • Make sure you do regular checks to make sure that nobody is secretly digging a hole under your fencing, or that someone is chipping away at your walls, bit by bit, and make sure that trees are cut back to avoid easy access if you do have them close to walls or fencing.

The best remedy for trees is to remove them and only plant at a safe distance from all boundary security.  Plant prickly plants like the fire thorn at the base of your walling or fence, they are not plants to mess with.

Should you notice any of these things, it is wise to get it all sorted out quickly so as not to compromise all your security.

Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss which options are best for you, or to request a free quotation.

Concrete Security Walls

ready made wallConcrete walls can be decorative and not just a dull grey structure as we imagine.   During the manufacturing process, permanent colour can be added to the wet concrete mix to ensure that the colour will be permanent, and the walls will not need to be painted in the future.
Alternatively, the walls can be painted at a later stage,, to incorporate the desired colour to complement the design of the property or wall.

Concrete is the perfect walling material as it does not rust like steel, and is very limited maintenance, as well as being very durable, stable, and long lasting.

Why settle for ordinary, when you can have a wall that is not only strong, durable, but also aesthetically pleasing.   In South Africa we value our privacy and security.   We tend to build high walls as a sense of security and a deterrent to would be criminals.   It is therefore a good idea to have a concrete fencerazor wire of about 2.4m and top it with palisade, razor wire, barbed wire, or electric fencing.

Unfortunately the high walls also offer criminals a good way to be undetected once they are in your property.  There are many aspects of security to take into account when deciding on a security wall for our properties, therefore it is a good idea to discuss all pros and cons with an expert who can advise and guide us to make the correct choice for the safety of our family and property.

Country Wide Walling are walling specialists and can give you expert advice and guidance, to ensure you have the best security possible.
